We recently enjoyed having a group of students over to our home for an end of class celebration. They received certificates for the work they did over 10 weeks and we ate a delicious meal together. Each student shared about their experience and one said that the Center is a place “without borders” that was a place of peace. That is a strong statement in this part of the world and we are rejoicing that God has allowed us to interact with students and friends from a wide variety of countries.
The people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned.
We recently started a once a week craft morning for women who want to come and freely create. It has been so fun, so relaxing, so freeing, and such a good conversation starting point! Above is one of the pieces that a student completed.
On a recent Saturday afternoon we hosted a Leadership Institute event at the Center featuring a guest speaker from Kentucky. She did an excellent job outlining ways people could pursue growth in their lives using “LEADERSHIP” as an acronym. Students often leave these events expressing thanks for the intentional lessons they’re learning and we are pleased that this is meeting a very real training need.
Please pray for the members of the Leadership Institute to grow in their capacity to effect change in this culture!
God has given each member of our team different passions and abilities. We have been dreaming about how we can use these passions to have a meaningful impactful presence in our community, and one way is through fitness. Recently, a short term team came to visit and we did a trial women’s fitness class. It’s a felt need amongst the women here and the ladies thoroughly enjoyed it. This has given me a good vision for a future wellness class at the center, an opportunity to address physical wellness as well as spiritual wellness.
We recently enjoyed a week with a visiting team from Lexington, Kentucky. One of the new elements that our team tried was a workout class specifically geared to reaching women in our sphere of influence. One of the Kentucky visitors was a trainer for these types of classes so we benefitted from her expertise.
With workout mats purchased and our largest classroom at the Center cleared for space, the only task left was to make sure there was enough room for the ladies to follow the movement instructions from the teacher. So naturally we had to try the workout for ourselves… after a few minutes we were really feeling the burn!
Please pray that as we move ahead this would be an excellent way for women to connect relationally at the Center, improve their health and ultimately have a chance to hear about the true Hope that is theirs through Jesus!
A common joke here when sweet snacks are served is to accept with a smile and say some variation of the phrase, “Starting Monday I’m on a Diet!” We recently saw the phrase written out on a wooden board in the shop window of a new health and nutrition store that opened (selling protein powders and supplements) and it was an excellent ironic advertisement. Don’t wait to start something good… get moving today!
John 1:5 “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has NOT overcome it.”
Pray against the darkness of hopelessness, broken relationships, and empty traditions that pushes in and attempts to crowd out Hope.
