This Academy was built by a king in 1106. It has since been restored, but the lowIMG_4876-2 stone benches along the sides still have the old niches for books the scholars used. According to medieval chroniclers, this Academy became “a second Jerusalem” where geometry, arithmetic, astronomy, music, grammar and philosophy were taught. The king was said to have built this complex “out of gratitude to God for his victories”– we pray the people here in GM will remember their rich history & once again turn to God with hearts of gratitude.
